Jane Komori is a PhD student in the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California Santa Cruz. She holds a BA in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies and Humanities, first class with distinction, from Simon Fraser University. Jane’s research explores mixed race identity, Japanese Canadian history, aging, storytelling, and alternative food systems. These interests are bridged by creative work including comics, creative writing, and illustration, which have been published in Ricepaper Magazine, Matrix Magazine, and GUTS Canadian Feminist Magazine, as well as a forthcoming book project in collaboration with the Tonari Gumi Japanese Community Volunteers Association, Japanese Heritage Vegetable Gardens. Jane’s activist work centres on issues of race, age, food, and gender justice. This includes a professional farming practice, work as a Victim Services Support Worker at WAVAW Rape Crisis Centre, zine organizing and editing, involvement with CJSF 90.1 FM’s campus and community feminist radio program Intra-Venus, and more.
